This teahouse was established by a father and son, Mitsubishi’s second president, Yanosuke Iwasaki, and his successor and fourth president, Koyata. It is modeled after the teahouse “Chogetsuan” that was formerly located in Seikado Bunko Library (Setagaya Ward, Tokyo).
“Chogetsuan” was run by Koyata, and was named by Eiheiji Temple’s chief priest, Hata Esho, after a line in a poem by Dogen Zenji. The teahouse was thus named “Kountei.”

Enjoy a cup of tea in this quiet teahouse in the garden, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Kountei in our hotel’s Japanese garden was created with that peaceful wish in mind. The building’s appearance respects the harmony between the building and the garden, representing a uniquely Japanese aesthetic. For a while you can forget that you are in the busy city. We hope you can enjoy a cherished moment admiring this beautiful garden that changes with the seasons.
